HILLSBORO FOOD PANTRY APPLIES FOR SHARE OF MILLION DOLLAR GIVE-AWAY AGAIN IN 2013.

by Sue McPhee

The Hillsboro District Food Pantry has filed application to receive a share of the annual Feinstein Challenge Million Dollar Give-away. And YOU can help. Here's how it works. Each year for the past 15 years, an amazing benefactor from Cranston, RI, Alan Feinstein, offers one million dollars of his own money to help anti-hunger agencies throughout the country. Following application, the agencies collect donations of both food and money from March 1 through April 30, 2013. Cash, checks, pledges, and food items (valued at $1 per can or pound) are totaled and this figure is reported to the Feinstein challenge. Each participating organization will receive a percentage of the million dollar grant, divided proportionately according to their total monies raised. Although this is not an exact matching grant, the more donations received, the more of the Feinstein million dollars an agency will be awarded. This is a win/win situation.

Following the traditional outpouring of generosity during the holiday season, early spring is typically a time when donations seem to drop off. Local fund raising efforts, concentrated during the months of March and April, can greatly enhance the Food Pantry's ability to assist their clients. This past year, due to the failing economy and rate of local unemployment, the number of area residents needing to access the Hillsboro Food Pantry has increased from an average of 90 families per week to approximately 132 families per week.

If you, your business, church, or organization would like to help, there are several ways to do so. You can plan a food drive. You can plan and put together your own fundraising effort. Or you can simply make a donation by cash, check or pledge to the Hillsboro Food Pantry. Remember, to be eligible for a portion of the Feinstein grant, all donations need to be rendered to the food pantry between March 1 and April 30, 2013.

Checks can be written and mailed to: Hillsboro District Food Pantry, 107 Windsor Rd., Hillsboro, NH 03244. (This address is for postal mail only) Food donations may be dropped off at the food pantry at 7 Church Street in Hillsborough, between the hours of 4 and 7 PM on Tuesdays or by appointment. For further information please contact Ernest Gould at 603-464-4007 or call the food pantry line at 603-464-4080. Hello, my name is Alan Shawn Feinstein. For the past 15 years, I have been giving away $1 million each year to anti-hunger agencies throughout the country. This year, I am doing it again...

WHATEVER YOU DONATE TO THE HILLSBOROUGH DISTRICT FOOD PANTRY, I WILL ADD MONEY TO IT. THE MORE YOU GIVE, THE MORE OF MY $1 MILLION THEY'LL GET, THANKS TO YOU!

Why am I doing this? Because I believe each of us was put here on Earth to do what we can to help those in need. We feel that YOU believe that, too.

This has become the greatest grass roots campaign ever to fight hunger in our country. Your donation makes you a partner in it with me! My money started this campaign but it is YOU who will help decide how many needy people in your town will be fed this year. All that will matter to us someday is what we did while we were here to help those who needed us. We are needed now!

Please give whatever you can and I will gladly add some of my money to yours. My $1 million will be divided in full proportionately among the agencies receiving donations toward my offer.

Thank you for sharing my heart, and the hope that someday no one will ever go hungry.
